Trailer rental company Hireco has placed an order with manufacturer SDC for £10m worth of box vans, double-deck step-frame curtainsiders and urban trailers.
The new fleet will be manufactured across SDC’s three engineering facilities at Toomebridge, Antrim and Mansfield over the next six months.
“We have been working closely with Hireco to ensure their specific requirements are always met and this has allowed us to form a great and sustainable partnership,” comments SDC managing director Mark Cuskeran.
The new contract follows a £1.25m order from Saudi company, the Rezayat Group back in February and Cuskeran says business is currently booming.
Dublin-based Hireco, which now has seven outlets throughout the UK and Ireland supplying equipment for contract hire and rental, has already purchased more than 5,000 SDC trailers.
“We are seeing an upturn in the UK and Irish markets with a high demand for trailer rentals,” states Hireco director Tony Wan.
“We have chosen SDC over the years because the quality of their products and customer service is second to none. I am looking forward to working more with them in the coming months.”
SDC Trailers pioneered a number of design advancements, including its bolt-on body, which allows for practical repairs and minimal downtime.
The trailer manufacturers was also the first to build an LST (longer semi-trailer), currently being trailed by the UK, offering a reduction in carbon emissions, congestion, fuel consumption and operational costs.
In 2010 SDC also launched the Autoliner in response to demand from vehicle transport operators. This semi-trailer offers more flexibility than standard car transporters, with additional operational and fuel saving benefits.
The company’s latest innovation – an extended length skeletal trailer – was unveiled by Princess Anne at last month’s commercial vehicle show in Birmingham.
The new 15.6m skeletal and 50ft container, which can transport up to eight additional pallets with one artic, is now being trailed by UK operator Malcolm Logistics.
